... LOVE ME WHEN I'M OLD ...

Three different sets of lyrics, and somewhat different tunes.
For Learning "By Ear"
Three different songs:    1.  Will you love me when I'm old and feeble?  (Smiley Bates)
                                       2.  Will you love me when I'm old?  (Simani)
                                       3.  Darling, say you'll love me when I'm old.  (Foster & Allen)

1.  WILL YOU LOVE ME WHEN I'M OLD AND FEEBLE

As sung by Smiley (Harvey) Bates

Chorus:
Will you love me when I'm old and feeble?

Will you love me when I'm old and gray?

When this heart of mine grows tired and weary,

Will you love me as you do today?

Verse 1:         When our children all grow up and leave us,
And have sweet families of their own,
Will you still be happy with me, Darlin'?
Will you still be happy in our home?

Verse 2:         When the chains of life begin to lower,
And fate descends upon our home,
With graying hair and hands that tremble,
Will all your love be mine alone?

2.  WILL YOU LOVE ME WHEN I'M OLD

As sung by Bud Davidge of Simani

Verse 1:       Life's morn will soon be waning
And its evening bells be tolled
But my heart shall know no sadness
If you love me when I'm old.

Verse 2:       Your love I know is truthful
But the truest love grows cold.
It is this that I would ask you,
Will you love me when I'm old?

3.  DARLING, SAY YOU'LL LOVE ME WHEN I'M OLD

As sung by Foster & Allen

Verse 1:       Two lovers they were walking hand in hand
The maiden wore a shiny wedding band
She said my love you own my heart and soul
So promise that you'll love me when I'm old.

Chorus:        Darling say you'll love me when I'm old
When dark clouds gather round and night are cold
And say you'll never trade our love for gold
Darling say you'll love me when I
'm old?

He kissed her lips and touched her golden hair
And looked upon her face so young and fair
He held her gently to his loving heart
Saying only God alone can make us part.

They lived for many years as man and wife
With seven kids to grace their happy life
Sometimes the clouds were dark and nights were cold
Somehow their love grew strong as they grew old.

Background Links:
I'm not sure who wrote the lyrics above, or the original melody, though it is likely that Smiley Bayes wrote #1 and Bud Davidge #2. The following youTube comments fail to clarify the confusion.

According to Craig Payne (in a 2015 comment below the Catriona O'Donovan youTube video), this song "was written by Pat Casey and was first recorded by The Coasters of Burgeo, NL. a few years after, Bud Davidge and Sim Savory of the Fortune Bay band SIMANI recorded It for the Fortune Bay Musicians album, and later added it to a revised version of their Music And Friends album, released in 1999."

According to gdgest (in a 2014 comment below the Judy Brazil youTube video), this song is a "variant of an original Newfoundland song written by Pat Casey of Torbay."

According to Steven Doyle (in a 2011 comment below the Foster & Allen youTube video), this song "was written by the lead singer of a band called Simani from Newfoundland.  The song was then passed via a friend to John Hogan who was the first to record it."
